Day 353 - sweet trees are made of this

Wow. It's 3.51pm and my celebrations for the day are finished.  I have an evening off! Unheard of. There were only 4 in my list today and I managed three of them so 75% before teatime is pretty good going.
I managed all three celebrations during my lunch break. Firstly I must give a warning. Do not Google "hard candy"! The pictures I saw on my usual resources were if candy canes, but Candy Cane Day is coming up soon so I needed to check what Americans think of as being "hard candy". As well as being boiled sweets it turns out that it is also slang for child pornography! Not something you want to be celebrating! It was the name of a film a few years back where a teenage girl takes revenge on a paedophile but I don't k ow whether that was named after the slang or whether it is the source of it. I won't be looking to find out. For the boiled sweets I stopped at the co-op and picked up a bag of rhubarb and rosehip sweets. They didn't taste of either but were edible. I'm not usually a fan of boiled sweets so they were never really going to set my world alight. I used to eat more than my fair share if cherry drops as a teenager but the only time I'll go for them now is when hiking. Lemon sherbets would probably be my boiled sweet of choice.

Next up on my walk was Holly Day. I found a few bushes dotted about along the path, none had any berries though so it didn't look particularly christmassy. I was tempted to snap some off and take it home but I don't think that the house really needs it, it looks sufficiently seasonal as it is. According to the song, the holly wears the crown. I'm not sure I'd want to wear a crown of holly (ouch!) But it's the holly which is supposed to do the wearing.  How does a bush wear a crown? I'm not sure I follow it. Any thoughts?
Finally it was also Look For An Evergreen Day. That was the purpose of my walk, to find an evergreen. There were a few along the way but none which jumped out at me. Our neighbour has evergreens which overhang our garden so I could just look out the window but I'm not sure that would have been enough.  My walk wasn't much more but it was pleasant enough. Once you've found an evergreen the celebration doesn't say about doing anything with it, just looking for one is enough.
So there you go. No plunger wearing or silly phone answering but celebrations all the same. I need to try some sangria tomorrow. There is a bar in Chester giving some away if you're in the area, it's a bit far for me though.
