Day 137 - lemon times two

Well that was a sunny day wasn't it. I had to put sun cream on a few times and even turned my collar up! This was quite handy for those of us who try to celebrate every day as today was something called May Ray Day. It's not something I've heard of before and I doubt that many other people have either. It's a day to soak up the sun on the basis that by now, the summer should have well and truly taken hold. And take hold it did. We went to the annual Kidsfest in the Quarry Park where the little ones ran, played, climbed, drew and generally had a great time. I was quite fortunate really, May Ray Day was a success. Yay!

Whilst at the kids festival I intended on having a go at playing the fiddle as there was a "come and have a go" stand. Unfortunately they'd shut by the time I got round to them so I had to dig my own one out of the cellar. I was inspired by the fiddle players at the local folk festival a few years back and bought one off ebay. It still sounds like a strangled cat though hence why it lives in the cellar. Hopefully I can get past the scratchy phase and maybe World Fiddle Day will be the catalyst. I also listened to some of John McCusker's set at the folk festival for a little more inspiration. Google it. He's very good.

For Plant A Lemon Tree Day I planted a lemon tree. By this I mean that I cut a lemon open and stuck three pips in a flower pot of compost.  The Apple tree which I planted earlier in the year is actually growing so hopefully one of these will too. Fingers crossed.

As I had a chopped up lemon I needed something to do with it. It was fortunate that it was World Whisky Day then wasn't it. I decided on trying a whisky cocktail, Bourbon Sidecar. This was 1 1/2 oz of bourbon whiskey,  1/2 oz Cointreau and 1/2 oz lemon juice. Shaken over ice. It wasn't bad, I'd have it again. I had considered picking up a mini bottle from the specialist shop in town but I didn't get a chance today.

Devil's Food Cake Day unfortunately went unmarked and I didn't learn to swim either but I think that today's celebrations went well all the same.

The royal wedding took place today so I'm sure that plenty more people will be celebrating today as well.
