Day 214 - ye olde disc golf and mustard

Aint kids great. They brighten up every day with their winning smiles and their positive attitudes. No one ever does anything nice for kids so it's no wonder that kids need celebrating. Today was Hooray For Kids Day. So far this week we've taken them to Caldey Island and Oakwood (like a Welsh Alton Towers). Today we took our lovely darlings to Clerkenhill Farm Park. It has animals, climbing frames, mini golf, go-karts, basically a load of stuff to keep them entertained. Oddly for the summer holidays it was really quiet so no queues either. Hooray! The best part was the Frisbee golf course which allowed us to celebrate Disc Golf Day. We started off with 5 frisbees, one each, and ended with 7. Son 1 lost his in the bushes and when I went in to find it I retrieved another 2. We've played once before a number of years ago, a friend threw the frisbee, the wind caught it and it came back like a boomerang and hit his son in the forehead.  Ouch! After 18 holes, Son 2 won (he was surprisingly good) and I came in second.  A fun afternoon for all.

The park also has a small sand pit which gave me a chance to build a sandcastle. Why not?  It was Sandcastle Day. I had planned at stopping at a beach on the way home but we were running out of time so it was lucky that I had a chance to celebrate regardless.  The sand wasn't the best and it was a bit rushed but it was good enough to get a tick in a box. I'll do it properly tomorrow as we're planning a beach visit.

I should mention something about Taxpayer Appreciation Day but as I didn't celebrate it there isn't really much to talk about.

On with the food then, there was a lot to celebrate today. I'm writing this with a glass of white wine as it's  White Wine Day. I can't tell you what type it is, where it came from or what grape was used. They all taste pretty much the same to me. I never understand people who talk about wine tasting like this fruit or that. It tastes  of wine to me.

Today's barbecue was celebrated with three different types of mustard which is the only way to celebrate Mustard Day. I think that it is also a charity day in some America  town but I'm not sure which charity nor where it is held. Bavarian was probably my favourite and the senf was good too although it shines with a bratwurst.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Day was a favourite with the kids. We had them with Son 1's home made vanilla ice cream. It was actually pretty good and much better than the cookie. I like the slightly soft chewy cookies more than the crunchy ones. What's your preference?

Finally it is Mead Day. I heard late on that it is also Champagne Day but I think that 2 alcoholic celebrations in one day is enough. I picked up some mead in Tangy, the monastery on Caldey Island surprisingly didn't have any. I thought that all monks made mead. Nope, that's just a common misconception.  I don't mind honey but it isn't something which excites me. Once I'm done with the wine I'll try the mead. After seeing the Bud Light adverts I keep wanting to say "dilly dilly" whenever I mention mead.

Thanks for reading, only 150 or so days to go!
