Day 221 - Middle child syndrome

In case you're new to this, or just don't pay attention, I generally find out which days to celebrate through two main websites. One of them says that today is Middle Child Day, the other goes for tomorrow. We have three kids, so therefore a middle child. This weekend is therefore all about him. Light of our lives.

For Middle Child Day we decided to take Son 2 to London and take in a show.  Quite extravagant for a unofficial holiday but that's the way we roll. Kind of. Actually we took Son 1 as a treat the year he turned 6 so this year it is Son 2's turn. There's a promotion called Kids Week where kids can get free tickets to the theatre so we tried to get one for something he'd like. The popular ones all went very quickly so we ended up with The Play That Goes Wrong. That's not a bad thing as we all loved the Christmas shows they do, it's just not a musical. Last night however, my better half managed to bag tickets to see School Of Rock. This one was on the short list.  how lucky is that?

The day started with a train journey to London. After checking in to our hotel (which gives out free Smarties and wasabi peas!) we went to see if Queenie was home. She was but we didn't get to see her. We saw Nelson on his column en route and then stopped in Covent Garden for some nibbles.  School Of Rock turned out to be excellent.  The film was good but seeing the kids playing live was extra special. They rock! The energy was infectious, the songs were catchy and the cast put in their all. Son 2 loved it. Job done. We then went to see a show on the Southbank. I'd recommend checking out "extraordinary bodies". I've never seen anything like it. They are a group of able-bodied and disabled people. They have a big metal cage on the stage in the shape of a wheel which spins. They then climb on it whilst it spins. Some are blind, some deaf, one was a wheelchair user with no use of his legs at all. It was amazing to watch and they used it to put across a social message. Hopefully they're on YouTube, worth searching for.

After the show we went for tea at Planet Hollywood. It started badly with the music being too loud for Son 2. The tunes however turned into sing along classics and the atmosphere became quite jolly. The food was good and I saw Han Solo frozen in carbonate so everyone was happy.

All in all it was an enjoyable day, Middle Child Day done properly! I didn't celebrate any others but one was quite enough. More tomorrow.
