Day 235 - banana splits and franchises
Another day, another celebration, or two. Today's looked like they would be tricky To fit around dancing in town and spending time with the kids at the festival but try I must. I'm writing this from the side of a Richard Thompson concert in case you're interested.
I started with an impromptu banana split. There I was, putting on my forest green waistcoat ( or is it emerald? ) when I realised that I didn't really need to eat a pudding to celebrate. I could just use the ingredients and blend them as I was in a rush. Milkshake it was then. Banana, ice cream, maple syrup and milk. The banana was good and mushy so it blended really well, no-one likes a lumpy milkshake. I do enjoy a banana split but this worked well too. Banana Split Day done.
Next up was Franchise Appreciation Day. At a time when the high street is being destroyed by franchises and internet sales it seems odd to celebrate them. What's good about a franchise? Giving people jobs? Familiarity? Low prices? Quality products? OK, maybe not that last one quite so much. To celebrate I stopped in Burger King on my way home to buy a burger. The girl who served me didn't listen as I said I just wanted a burger. She charged me for chips and drink too. After sorting this out she charged full price rather than the special offer price. Yay for franchises!
It gets a little more tenuous now. It was Kiss And Make Up Day. I didn't need to make up with anyone but I thought that maybe Kiss make up would do instead. Son 2 wanted his face painting so I tried to persuade him to go with Starchild or the Demon. He wasn't having it and chose a scary clown. He looked a bit like Doink from the Insane Clown Posse.
I was hoping to do Whiskey Sour Day but the on site gin bar didn't do them and I couldn't make it myself as it requires egg whites and angustora bitters. Maybe it'll come around again. I was however leant a rope for Monday so hopefully Tug O War Day is go!
Ooh, I nearly forgot. It was also Speak Kind Words Day so I will speak kindly about The Fitzgeralds. Three different sources recommended them so we had a listen and they didn't disappoint. The clogging was excellent and the variety of tunes meant that it was interesting too. Check them out in Bristol or at Cecil Sharp House if you get a chance.
