Day 227 - better late than never

Sorry to all you avid readers who were looking forward to your daily dose of yay, I was watching Thor: Ragnarok last night and ran out of time (Have you seen it? It's very different to the other two. Marvel meets Laurel and Hardy).

Anyway, I had to nop to the co-op as I was out of milk powder and was wondering how to celebrate Vanilla Custard Day. I didn't feel like cooking from scratch and the answer jumped off the shelf. Vanilla egg custard tarts! I hate to think how much Middle Child Day cost to celebrate, Vanilla Custard Day was 48p. The pack even had two in it so I could share the love with a colleague. How generous am I? I much prefer the Portuguese ones but this did the job. It was custardy, a bit vanillay, but mainly nutmeggy.

On my way home I took a detour through town to celebrate Thrift Store Day ( think charity shop). Charity shops tend to divide people,  you either love them or hate them. I'm in the former category.  A good percentage of my clothes come from them but I have an addition to the charity shop CD shelf. I haven't counted but the CDs (sadly now residing in the cellar until the kids grow up and I get my music room back!) but there must be between 4 and 5 hundred. Mostly a pound or less but mostly pretty good. I do sometimes take a punt based on a name or packaging and find a dud but often I've struck gold.  Today's haul included a Fall Out Boy CD, a children's folk CD and a three CD compilation of Christmas songs. I found a book to read (Suite Francais) and a tank top! I've been after one for a while. I also bagged a couple of Dvds for the kids. I got home to find that the family had also been shopping. Daughter had some books and dress, Son 2 had a teddy and Son 1 had an entire wardrobe! I'm with Macklemore, charity shops are great. Yay!

I tried to celebrate #2 Pencil Day (HB) but the pencil sharpener just kept breaking the lead. I hate it when they do that. we have loads of HB pencils but none were sharp. I gave up too easily.

You may wish to skip the next bit as it's about hair. Today was Men's Grooming Day. A day to recognise that men can spend time on how they look if they want to. I'm normally on the don't want to side as I understand fully that you can't polish a turd so why bother trying. I go do far as to odd shave now and again as I'm blessed/cursed with a pathetically thin beard. When it does grow its patchy and makes me look like a desperate teenager. I purposely let it grow this week so that I had something to shave off. I didn't think that would be enough though to satisfy your need for celebration so I forked out on a tube of Veet for men. That isn't something I ever thought I'd say. I'm not hairy at all but like most men I do still have the odd patch. The instructions said the spread on with a sponge, leave for about 3 mins then scrub off in the shower. I gave it a go and ended up with a red patch and a few less hairs.  It wasn't exactly a smooth finish. Maybe your supposed to repeat? Let's just say that I don't look much different to when I started but Boots have 7 of my hard earned pounds to show for it.

As it was also I Love My Feet Day I also trimmed my nails whilst I was at it. Isn't this exciting to hear. Finally it was Black Cat Appreciation Day. My black cat is 16 years old and loves affection. She flopped by my feet (she loves my feet too!) whilst I was watching Thor and we had some pet/owner bonding time. I'm not sure which of us is the pet and which is the owner but stroking cats is mutually beneficial.

Right, today has a lot going on so I need to get planning. Anyone for Geocache?
