Day 239 - unnecessary food
I afraid that this will have to be quick as we've just got back from the cinema having watched Mamma Mia 2 and it's gone bedtime.
I decided not to celebrate Potteries Bottle Oven Day as a friend said that the old furnace used to make the pottery killed many people at a young age. Instead I went with the much less political Chop Suey Day. It's one of those dishes which was invented somewhere other than where you'd imagine, it was in America rather than China, a bit like how the tikka masala was from Birmingham (I think). Anyway, I bought a portion on my way to collect Son 1 from his dance class. It was quite tasty but was a little unspecific. A Chinese dish with no obvious flavour. Its food for when you just want to eat and aren't fussed what.
Next up I cooked tea and used some oregano on my chips instead of salt. It worked better than I thought. I'd recommend it.
International Day Against Nuclear Tests didn't get the attention it deserves. Lemon Juice Day did though so it wasn't all bad. Whiskey Sour Day was on either the 25th or today depending on which website you read so I celebrated both that and Lemon Juice Day. Sadly the internet doesn't seem to be able to decide how to make it. Some websites said angustora bitters, some did not. Some said sugar syrup, some not. Some said egg white, some not. I didn't have time to do it properly so I gave it a shot. It tastes very sour. I think that next time I'll go with the sugar syrup!
